Blog Response #2
Choose a character from your book. How do you envision this character? Use your words to describe how this character looks, acts, and behaves. Also, discuss the impact this character has had on the story up to this point. Would you be friends with this character, or would you avoid him/her? Why? What role does this character play in your book? If this character was not in the book, would the book change? Why or why not?? (Remember to give specific details and a complete blog entry, and don't forget to comment on two other blog entries! Happy Blogging!)

i think nortie looks like a healthy young man. i think he looks like this because you have to be fit to be a good swimmer. i think he is a kind boy to his friends and other people. this character has a big impact on the story because he is best friends with Walker, Lion, Jeff. i would be friends with this character because he seems to be really nice and i feel bad for nortie getting beat by his dad. he plays the role as one of the best friends in the book. the story would change without him because he has a lot of part in the story with his dad beating him and stuff. he is very important to the story.
ReplyDeleteI agree, because of the fact that he has been through so much, and I think he will make a great Stotan at the swim meet deal.
DeleteI agree with both of you because of what you guys said and the book wouldnt be the same without her shes a unique character.
DeleteI am also reading the same book. I believe that he should leave his family because they all seem like bad influences.
DeleteMy character id pick would be Boomer. I imagine him as a big guy that has kind of a square head and is as dumb as a stump. I feel like he acts like hes the biggest and baddest person around and that everyone should look up to him. He also behaves in a very racist manor and treats the african american in the story very badly. This character pushes the main character to his breaking point and is effecting the main characters life. Boomer also serves as a side antagonist to Louie. I think if boomer wasnt in the book it would be much different because there would have been no one to cause the main conflict in the book that pushed Louie to his tipping point.
ReplyDeletei think that boomer and Preston can relate because neither one of them really care about what other people think or say and if Preston wasn't in the book i think it would be a much different book
DeleteI also picked Boomer as my character. I agree with your description of him I do think of him as dumb as a Stump. Also i agree with your point that with out Boomer there would be no tipping point in the book.
DeleteIm not reading your book but it sounds very interesting with this boomer guy.
DeleteMy Character\I like Coach Lendecky i feel like he is a kid that didn't make the team in high school and is hoping he gets a chance as a coach is make the championship he is Louies football coach. He is mean, and dumb. He is also racist against African Americans. I feel like he is a Mr. Penner he is kinda mean and wants his chance to win state. I feel like is he was not in the book it would be a lot more boring and the fight would not have happen.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about that if he was not in the book that the fight would never have happened. I can also see where you are coming from with the idea that the coach was not very good in high school and trying to relive it and win a state title as a coach. But I think that he has to be a good coach too win three state titles in a row, it is just that he is a dirty coach.
DeleteI can totally understand where you are coming from. Coach Lednecky is not a nice person and he should not be the Football coach in my opinion. His vision of how to play this sport is "interesting", because hurting the quarterback of the other team has nothing to do with fairness. Yes, I agree with you. If he wouldn't be in the story, Running loose would be really boring.
DeleteI agree with you coach lendecky is not a good person but the book would be boring if he wasn't in the book
DeleteI have the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, I think Sarah looks really skinny because I dont think she has enough money for food and if they did I think her dad would eat the majority of the food. Also, she is very badly scared but I still dont know how she got those scars. Sarah is very tough, she doesnt take anyone's crap besides her dads, but everyone else she stands up too. Sarah plays a big role in this book because she is the main characters best friend and she is the one that always gets Eric into trouble with all the stuff that she pulls. I would definitely avoid Sarah because she would intimate me to much. I think the role Sarah plays in this book is important, i think at the end of the story we will learn a lot from her. This book would really change without her because I dont think there would be any lesson and Eric would just be another fat kid at school getting bullied.
ReplyDeleteI found Sarah's character to be very confusing, because she switches from nice and kinda sarcastic to almost psychotic and controlled by emotions. I like her in some aspects, and you are right the book would definitely not be the same without her.
DeleteI like that you pointed out that the only person Sarah does not stand up to is her Dad I never really thought about it but it is true very interesting . I think her relationship with her dad plays apart in why she acts so tough . I also agree with what you said about Eric , Sarah definitely has a big impact on him.
Deletemy name is john greenwood i am reading Chinese handcuffs and i envision Preston he is in a wheel chair and i imagine his face sunk in from all the drugs. i see his being pretty crazy. after he committed suicide it brought Dillon and Stacy apart yes if Preston wasn't in the book it would just be another book but Preston does a lot of mest up things in the book i guess i really cant say that i would change the book because of the fact that i haven't read the entire book yet so i dont know if he was still there or if he was gone on how it would impact the book
ReplyDeletePreston has gone through some pretty tough times with his accident and his drug addiction.
DeleteI completely agree with the way you envisioned Preston. The sunken eyes is what mostly stands out to me when I envision preston.
DeleteIn the book Stotan, Max is the swimming coach, and although we haven't heard a lot about him I believe that he is a big guy and not fat tall and built. He seems like he really cares about the boys. He has had a big impact on the story because of stotan week, and how he kept it a mystery. He is a coach so he I probably 25-30 so I wouldn’t really be friends with him because of the age gap. If he was not in the book there would most certainly be a difference because the boys would not have ever heard of stotan week.
ReplyDeleteI would want to be friends with Max, because of his passion to get better.
DeleteCoach Max sounds very different than Coach Lednecky in my book. Im reading running loose. Coach Lednecky only cares about winning and not as much about his players as he should or like coach Max in your Book.
DeleteI am reading the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. The character that I chose is Sarah Byrnes because she has the biggest impact on the book. I picture her as chubby and looking like Dwight from the walking dead. In high school she talked all the time but was pretty weird. Now that shes in this "Hospital" She doesn't talk at all. I probably wouldn't be friends with Sarah Byrnes because she is pretty weird. When she got in a fight with Dale she let him punch her in the face until he was tired and never fought back. She also put her friend in a box to try and sneak him past Dale. Dale almost lit the box on fire. If Sarah wasn't in the book there wouldn't be a book because everyone else would live a normal life.
ReplyDeleteYour book sounds like a book someone had to read in Psychology or something.
DeleteI also am reading that book and i also dont like Sarah because she seems rude and mean and i wouldnt want to be friends with her.
DeleteHow do you almost light a box on fire
DeleteThe character I am going to choose is walker because he is the one telling the story. Walker is a teenage boy who is the captain of the swim team, but he works hard at becoming better and better at swimming. I envision him as a tall and skinny kid. His parents are much much older than his friends' parents and they are not really involved in his life, so walker is very much independent. Walker is a good character he also looks out and supports his friends. I would be friends with him. If walker wasn't in the book, I think the book would change because it would be someone else's thoughts on what goes on in the book. Plus, it might have been different views on his friends and not gave all the details and information about them. I am actually starting to like this book.
ReplyDeleteWalter and dillan seem to be very physically active dillan was training for the iron man i am glad that you are starting to like your book
DeleteI also chose walker, and I had the same idea about him that you have such as how he looks.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI think that T.B. and Dale from my book would get a long because they both seem like the hate everyone else.
DeleteI am reading Running Loose and I am going to choose the character, Boomer. I envision this character as dressing in a t-shirt and athletic pants like all of the time. Or in a cut-off just walking around acting all tough. Picking on all of the smaller kids and just bulling them but kids his size he doesn't even say a word too or a kid that might put up a fight. His impact in the story is that he is only there it seems like to put down Louie and make him feel like crap boomer is mean to Louie every chance he gets. Boomer was also the one to hurt Washington and make Louie freak out because he intentional hurt Louie. Boomer seems like the exact kid that I would hate, he would for sure not be my friend. But I also wouldn't avoid him, I wouldn't go out of my way to avoid him. Boomer's role in the book is to be the mean guy, the bully. If boomer was not in the book it would for sure change the whole story line, he is the guy that everyone can hate on and Louie might not have freaked out as much if it had been anyone else too injury Washington.
ReplyDeleteI chose Boomer too, and I 100% agree with how you described him. I think he is so mean to people that are smaller than him because he wants to make himself standout as that much bigger. He is probably one of those kids that struggles to have friends because he is a jerk
Deleteya he wouldnt be my friend either. i wouldnt be able to play on the same team as boomer
DeleteI imagine Sarah with dark hair and tall. I also can imagine her with all of the burn scars on her face. I feel like she acts kind of rude to Eric and i personally would not be friends with her. She is the most important character because the book is based around why she stopped talking. If she wasnt in the book it would change the whole book because then there would need to be a new character.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the same book and i wouldn't be friends with her either because she is kind of rude to her only friend.
DeleteYea, i honestly don't know what the book would even be about without her i n it. I don't really like her as a person, but i can also understand why she acts how she does.
DeleteSounds like a wild ride of a book.
Deletei agree she is kind of a jerk, but she went through a really rough past. I think its a wall she puts up to protect herself.
DeleteI can imagine the way she looks from the way you described her, and i think she is a very large character in the book.
DeleteI am reading the book running loose the character i would envision is boomer. He is the class bully and is one of the best players on the football team. he is really tall and strong and he gets his nick name boomer from the way he kicks the football. boomer try fighting the main character twice. I would not be friends with boomer because he is a bully. if this character was not in the book the book would be way different because boomer is the one that targeted the other teams player and that is what made Louise get kicked of the team.
ReplyDeleteI like the way how you described Boomer And I think you are right. Louie got kicked of the team because he didn't approved what coach Lednecky said and Boomer did.
DeleteI also have a bully in my book and i would not be friends with the bully in my book either.
DeleteI agree with you i also have a bully in my book i don't wanna be friends with him

ReplyDeleteI am reading the book Running Loose and the person I want to describe is Becky Sanders. She is the girlfriend of the main character Louie who is/was a football player. Becky is one of those popular girls who’s everyone's favorite. She is a 17 years old young, strong and tall girl with long brown hair and green eyes, who is a Cheerleader at Trout Highschool. Becky seems pretty, smart and very nice. She is a really good girlfriend for Louie. She’s always there for him and supports Louie, but also gives him his space when he needs it, for example after the football game against Salmon River. I think she has a great impact on him during the book and I believe, that she might has changed him. I think Louie became a lot more adult and without Becky he might couldn’t handle the whole situation with Coach Ledneckys set up plan to hurt the other quarterback just to win the game.
ReplyDeleteWhat are some of the more significant ways that she changed him?
DeleteI like the way you described Becky sanders the book would be way different if she wasn't in the book
DeleteI am reading Chinese handcuffs and the character that i chose is Dillon and he likes to run and hopes to qualify for the iron man. I don't know if i would be friends with im because it seems he likes to exercise. the book would change a little bit because he is a some what big character in the book but hes not the most important character.
ReplyDeleteI choose dillion too and i hope he qualifies for the Iron Man too. He really deserves with all his hard work.
DeleteI also chose Dillion becasue the whole story wraps around his life. Hes a hard working and determined man to get to the iron man.
Deleteif you dont like the main character why you like the book
DeleteI agree with Blake if you don't like the main character why do you like the book.
DeleteI am reading Running Loose and the Character I chose is Boomer. This stereotypical jock seems like the kind of person who would end up trying to fight every guy at the gym for no reason other than you looked at him. He ends up pulling the illegal move on the opposing player which causes Louie to thrown off the team. Why would I want to be friends with someone who ends up knocking the lights out of someone who said one "wrong" thing to him. I feel like I would mention him once or twice if he was in my book.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that Boomer seems to have the constant need to be picking on someone, its usually Louie to, do you think that Boomer has a past beef with Louie that Louie isnt even aware of.
DeleteYeah i dont like boomer either i think i would try t fight the guy.
Deletesame. i dont like him either because of his cockiness
DeleteI am reading the book Stotan, and the character I chose was Nortie, because he is a very interesting character because of the things he has gone through as a child. Since he had a rough childhood, by having a father who was always hard on him and very abusive. And so I believe he is going to make a great Stotan at the swimming meet, because of the sound of it, it's going to take a lot of strength to get through Stotan week.
ReplyDeleteIm reading the same book and i picked Nortie too.. can you relate to him any way?
DeleteI also chose Nortie, Do you think you would be friends with him?
Deletei picked nortie too because i was very interested in how strong he is even though he has been through a lot with his father. do you think something big is going to happen?
DeleteI don't have this book but nortie sounds like a nice guy can u relate to him dirty
DeleteIn the book, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, i believe Eric (Mobe) to be a kid who is just a little on the heavy set side, but not by a lot because he lost weight from swimming. I believe that without Mobe, Sarah wouldn't have a friend at all, and the fact that he's friends with her even though he lost weight shows that he really cares about her. He is definitely someone i would want to be friends with because he seems like an easy going guy.
ReplyDeleteThat is really nice how even though she changed and he didn't that they are still friends.
DeleteI will agree with your envision of Eric. Can you relate to anyone in the book?
DeleteI agree with everything you said I think Mobe is a very sweet kid and with out him I think Sarah would be very lost.
DeleteI am reading Chinese Handcuffs the character i would choose is Dillion. I can relate the most to him because he is a boy. I would probaly be friends with him because he is the kind of guy i"d like to go fishing with. This character is the main character in the story the whole book revolves around him about his path and current choices he makes. The book would be nothing with out because all it talks about is him.
ReplyDeleteIm glad you can find a character to relate to and make the story more relate for yourself.

ReplyDeleteI am reading running loose and the character I chose is the character Boomer. He is the star running back for the football team that is good enough to play at the college level. He is big and strong and very athletic. To me he is a huge jerk. He walks around with a chip on his shoulder thinking that he is better than everyone else. Boomer and Louie always seems to butt heads and never agree with anything. Carter is the peace keeper between them. Carter knows that Boomer is a jerk face always will have Louie's back. Boomer has impacted this story in many ways. Without him, this wouldn't be a story because without Boomer, Washington wouldn't have got hurt. Louie wouldn't have freaked out and got kicked off the team. If Boomer went to WD, i would avoid him because he sounds like bad news and just isn't a good person.
ReplyDeleteJeff why do you think that Boomer is constantly on Louie's case at every turn? Even when Louie isn't doing anything Boomer seems to have a constant grudge against Louie.
DeleteIm reading the book Stotan the character i would chose is Nortie. I chose him because she is a brave person because he was the only one that singed up for Stotan week.I would be freinds with him because he dont let other people put him down becuase hes the only one that singed up and others were making fun of him but he didnt let it bother him.I wouldnt change him because hes making the book intersting.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think Nortie was the only one to sign up?
DeleteDoes he relate to you at all?
DeleteI think you would connect with him a lot, but how do you connect with him.
Deletei picked nortie as well i think he is a very strong man and is willing to stand up for himself. do you think nortie is a boy or a girl? i am a little confused on your comment.
DeleteI do agree with that Nortie is really brave and he doesn't let anything stop him.
DeleteI am reading Stotan, I chose Nortie because of how much of interesting but rough life he has. He had a very tough abusive father who made his childhood very hard and he has had to raise himself and provide for himself since a young age. I think i would be friends with Nortie though he seems like a good friend. I think the book would change a lot without him as he is a main characters and one of the close friends.
ReplyDeleteIn my book, Chinese Handcuffs, I have read about a very similar character, Jen who has dealt with abuse throughout her entire life. She has always had to keep her guard up around her father, and later her stepfather, both of who sexually abused her.
DeleteIm reading the book Chinese handcuffs and I picked Dillion. Hes athletic, likes to run, and in shape. I might wanna be friends with him but I dont like to run. I like to keep in shape and all but im a bad runner myself. Since hes the main character it would change the whole pint of view towards the book and the book probably wouldnt even be wrote.
ReplyDeleteI’m reading the book Stotan, and the character I am choosing is Walker. I imagine this character as a leader and someone who knows how to deal with problems on the everyday spectrum. I think he is a tall and slimmer person, with darker hair and kind looking, not a big person that people think will beat them up. This character has had a very big impact on all the other characters with helping them physically and mainly mentally. This character is the main character and I would be friends with him because he always knows what to do. If Walker wasn’t a character in the book, I think it would just be full of everyone having mental breakdowns and people not knowing how to handle their problems.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you're really into the book but do you relate to Walker in anyway?
DeleteYes I totally agree with everything you said about Walker. He definitely has an impact in the book.
DeleteIs the character Walker the only actual person who helps people mentally and physically or is there another character who helps too?
DeleteWhat kind of problems does he deal with everyday?
Deletei pick Louie for my character hes more of a shy tip of person but at the same time not he dont like a lot of attention and is OK at football what he talks about constantly he seems like a good friend to people and is always looking to do something
ReplyDeleteLouie sounds like a good character
DeleteI would envision Boomer as a large man that looked built, he isn't to smart though and he likes to push kids around and he thinks that he is hot stuff compared to everyone else. He is constantly pushing around Louie, he has punched him multiple times but when Carter comes around Boomer backs off. I would definitely not be friends with Boomer because he thinks that everyone is beneath him, and he is better than the rest. The book would change some because without him Louie would have it easier, and the hit against Washington wouldn't have happened. But i also think it would be a little boring because Boomer likes to keep Louie on his toes.
ReplyDeleteDo you think the book would change if Boomer had more friends? Do you think he would be a better person if he had some friends to hang around?
DeleteI am reading the book Chinese Handcuffs and a character in the book that i chosen is Jennifer. I see Jennifer as a blonde, tall, athletic girl who is smart and caring. She doesn't like to be open to people unless they're close friends or family. I would be friends with her because she seems like she would be a good friend to have. Jennifer's role is Dillon's friend and Dillon had a little crush on her. The book would change because shes one of the main characters in the book and a lot of things wouldn't have been said if she wasn't in the book. Dillon and Jennifer wouldn't have gone a "date." He wouldn't have taken her home from the hospital after her accident during basketball. Jennifer would change the book if she wasn't in it.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think she would be a good friend?
DeleteI chose Jennifer too and I completely agree with her physical features and how Jennifer is not a very open person.
DeleteI agree with you that she would be a good friend but maybe over time because I think you would have to get close to her for her to open up to you.
DeleteIf i would have to choose anyone to write about how i envision them i would choose Moby. I see him as medium height in high school, athletic looking, and also nice. As a middle schooler i see him as very chunky and pretty depressing to be around. Without him in the story Sarah would have no friends, and the book wouldn't even have a narrator, so id say hes pretty important.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. I choose the character Sarah. I feel like she is a medium height, skinny girl. I can also picture all the scars on her face. I don't think i would want to be friends with her because she kind of seems a little rude towards Eric even though they are supposed to be best friends. Sarah is like the main character in the book. She is the one that is talked about the most. I feel like the book would not be the same without her because she is like the main character.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything you said, I think Sarah is very rude to Eric. I think the story would definitely change without her because Eric would just be a normal kid and wouldnt have anything to say without Sarah
DeleteI agree with you that Sarah is rude towards Eric so why do you think Eric still chooses to be friends with her ?
DeleteI'm reading Chinese handcuffs, the character I chose is Jennifer. I imagine her tall, blonde and an athletic build. The way I see her acting is sort of full of herself when it comes to basketball. The role she plays is she is Stacey's best friend and Stacey used to date Dillon's brother Preston. Dillon also has a crush on Jennifer, so the book would be different because he talks about her a lot.
ReplyDeleteReading Chinese Handcuffs, the character easiest for me to envision is Preston, although he is not alive, I imagine him with the most detail compared to all of the other characters. I see him as a broad shouldered man who is on the muscular side, with sharp but dark features. I see him with black hair wearing a dirty leather jacket, someone who chooses not to shower very often and does not value hygiene. He rides around in a sport wheel chair and drives a white cargo van. Because he in not alive, his impact comes through in his brother Dillon. Dillon has acted out much more than when Preston was alive. Preston has a huge impact on the story through Dillon, making him act differently to the point where a good kid regularly gets suspended from school. If Preston had not killed himself, Dillon would be a much different character, and the book would not have a character with a deep moral issue. While Preston was a horrible person, I can still see myself being friends with him for some reason.
ReplyDeleteIn the book Chinese Handcuffs I find it easiest to envision Jennifer. I think Jennifer is a taller girl with a strong body because she is a star basketball player. I also picture Jennifer with long blonde hair with soft eyes but also a broken heart. Jennifer has been the victim of sexual assault not only with her father but with her step-dad as well. Because of this abuse, Jennifer is very guarded of her sister and very smart with her actions trying to stay away from her step-dad as much as possible. Jennifer joined basketball and does lots of classes for studying. Outside of the home Jennifer is known as a selfless basketball player with a kind heart. I wish to say that I would be friends with her but knowing her character it seems like she does not open up to new friends and is not a very openly friendly person because she has major trust issues. Jennifer is a main character in this book, the chapters flip between Jennifer and Dillon. Right now the book would not change because the 2 different stories have not been combined yet. Jennifer's story and Dillon's story have not intertwined. I am getting more and more interested in this book but I still don't know when the book will all come together.
ReplyDeleteI am reading staying fat for Sarah Byrnes . I would Describe Sara Byrnes as smart , witty , and somewhat of a trouble maker . I think a lot of her personality and how she acts has a lot to do with her upbringing . Sara is witty and acts tough and I think that it comes from having to deal with her mean dad and maybe being bullied . I think the book would be completely different without her . I don't think Eric would have followed through with anything they've done like crispy pork rinds or hiding in the box from Dale or becoming his friend with anyone other than Sara Byrnes , so she definitely has an impact on the story and Eric specifically. I am not sure if I would be friends with Sara Byrnes because or not because I don't think shes mean to people like dale is , but sometimes how she talks to Eric is mean but I do think she cares about him and its just part of who she is .
ReplyDeleteThe character i chose is boomer. i see boomer as a jock and i feel like he is just a dumb. i see him being a really big muscular guy. he can act all mean and everything but i feel like hes just dumb and cant do good in school. He hasnt impacted the book hasnt impacted the book as much as i thought he would so far in my reading. I dont think i would ever be friends with this type of person. this person is more of a bully than anything. i dont like seeing people bully others.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your perspective of Boomer because in the book it talks about how Boomer is really good at football but that's all he's good at. If he doesn't get a scholarship for football then he's going nowhere because he's too stupid to get into college without one.
DeleteHope
ReplyDeleteThe character I chose is Louie. I see Louie as an average guy who people don't really notice or pay attention to. He has the average family, two parents that are still married, that have two kids, and are very close to one another and supportive of their children. He looks average, nothing that stands out. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and just all around average. He doesn't act out or cause trouble, at least he didn't before everything that happened. I don't think that I would be friends with Louie just because I don't think I would notice him and knowing me I wouldn't care for him. Louie is the main character in the book Running Loose and if he wasn't in the book the entire book would literally change. Everything revolves around Louie and his life and if he were to not be in the book, there wouldn't be a book.
I'm reading the book Stotan the character i would pick would be Nortie he is a great guy with lots of personalty and a past i can get a hold of. I think Nortie is a little taller then walker would be fit for a swimmer and have straight dark short hair. Nortie shows that he wants to be better then how hes been raised with the negative household and family life, hes also really good with kids in teaching them i can relate to it somewhat teaching other people can give that feeling of pride and its much easier to talk to a child. I think if Nortie had a different personalty or friends this book would be a lot more boring and be a very different book.
ReplyDeletei chose the character boomer in the book running loose. i chose him because i look at him as a show off and cocky. he thinks hes the best. and he thinks hes the king of the team but in rality hes actaully kind of dumb when it comes to schooling. the book would change a lot i think because hes the star quarterback and without him the team would suffer
ReplyDeleteI chose Louie because he tries to be something he's not and he tends to get in trouble for it. the book would definitely change if Louie was different or acted different.
ReplyDelete
