Please answer both questions in your blog.
1. Upon finishing your book, share any lessons or themes that the book has taught you or left you with. When you look back on this book 5 or 10 years from now, what will you remember about it? Where does this book rank in your list of all time favorites?
2. What lessons has this class as a whole taught you? With freedom comes responsibility. What did you learn in English 4B.
**When responding, try to make connections with the lessons that your book taught you or the lessons you have learned in this class.
1) Upon finishing Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, I have learned quite a bit. The biggest lesson was that the ultimate answer to the universe is whatever you want it to be. This can be applied to nearly everything. The biggest question in the book was "why do people wake up every morning and go to work?" I learned that there is no definitive answer to this question, and everyone needs to find their own answer. I loved this book so much I plan to read the whole trilogy - all 4 of the other books. This book currently ranks #1 on my list of favorite books, and genuinely makes me want to read more. I hope that this never changes (unless I like one of the later books in the series more).
ReplyDelete2) The whole class has taught me that if you actually stick to a schedule, work becomes much much much easier. I also learned that with enough caffeine, anything is possible - I read 100 pages in one night. In all of English 4B, I learned a lot about grammar through writing all of the essays, which will most definitely help me throughout college. I also learned that in a group, one single (good or bad) member can make all the difference one way or the other.
i'm glad that you like your book so much and i can relate to the question "why do people go to work (in my case school) every morning" and neither do i have an answer for that. i guess we just do it because we have to.
Deletei wish my book hooked me as good as your book did you too
DeleteI feel that your book is something that makes you think a lot, which is a great quality in any book. I also agree with the caffeine, it has helped me get through a lot.
Deletethis book seemed to kinda pull your interest right away that i wish mine could have done.
DeleteI am happy you liked your book and my book also hooked me in.
Deleteyes i agree if everyone pulls there weight in a group the time fly back and you get to see the different views on the books
DeleteYeah, very true. If you stay on schedule and caught up, it makes life in English class a lot easier.
DeleteI'd love to read the book all over again since its been a while. Try to find The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Its the whole series in one book.
Delete1) After finishing my book, I would say the Title Wonder was a big deal because there would be parts in the book when character would say something about Wonder like August would say I wonder why I was born the way I was or his mom saying that he was a wonder to them. I feel even though August wonder that it makes stronger as a person and helps him build the relationship he has with everyone at school by the end of the book. I guess a lesson could be to keep your head held high and not let anyone bring you done and if they are mean act as if it never happens. I think looking back at it 5 years from now I would always remember to not judge anyone especially their appearance might not be able to help it. I haven't read many books so I would probably rank this book the fifth for my favorite book.
ReplyDelete2) This class has taught me a different way of staying organize I usually keep everything I need to get done in my head but when you actually write it down on a calendar or make a checklist it makes things a lot better because you know you will have less of a chance of forgetting to do something because you have it all planed out on paper. Even with all the days off we had I still did the reading because I had the pages, I needed to read to that day wrote down on my calendar so not having school didn't stop me. I also feel like talking in a group about your book helps you understand it more and writing your thoughts down in a reading log.
I really like the lesson, to keep your head held high and not to let anyone bring you down, that your book taught you. And i totally agree with you that staying organized and writing things down make you not forget things you have to do for this class.
DeleteI have heard many good things about this book, so the lesson must be very powerful. Especially when it comes to not judging people by appearance because that is what many people do today without getting to know who that person actually is.
Deleteour books kind of shared the same theme of not giving up i find that our themes our both very common among alot of books
DeleteI learned a similar lesson from English IV, that it is so much harder to forget things if you write them down. Schedules allow you to stay on track and not be constantly procrastinating. This has carried over into my life outside of school. I find myself writing things out, and sticking to plans much better.
Deletei have also read that book and you definitely got the theme right
Deletei am reading night and one theme that i have took away from this book was never give up elie was pretty close to giving up when he thought his dad was going to die but he was persistant and never gave up. when i look back on this book in 10 years i will remeber that Elie Wiesel is one tough guy for surviving the holocaust and being able to tell people about his experiences. this book is probaly in my top ten it is too good say its bad but isnt bad enough to say not good. This class has taught me that i can learn on my own.
ReplyDeletei am also reading night and i believe the theme is the same.
DeleteYes anyone who as survived the holocaust is one tough and brave person. Their stories and what they went through is so interesting but it also sucks they had to go through that.
DeleteI am with you on the prediction that if someone mentions this book 10 years in the future, I am certain that I will still remember it. I too learned that I can learn on my own throughout this class. It is so easy to ask the teacher what the answer is in any class, but not in this one. You have to find the answer yourself, and there is no way around this. I have gotten so used to just giving up and asking how to do problems, that this class was a wonderful wake up to the fact that it doesn't need to be this way as I can simply figure it out myself.
DeleteI read the book night i also agree with the theme because he always stays strong through out the whole book.
DeleteIn my book Robert Jordan has the same mind set about not giving up, but he knows for fact that he is going to die to accomplish his mission, which say something about his commitment.
Delete1.) After finishing my book, Before i Fall, it definitely taught me a common lesson, but a lesson that people should really take seriously. Do not take anything for granted, because you never know when it will be your last day on Earth. This book gives good examples as to what can happen based on decisions you make throughout your life. This book ranks somewhere in the top 5, even though the end was a bit frustrating.
ReplyDelete2.) In this class, i have learned that you need to make sure that you keep up with your reading and staying organized. I have also learned that it is easier to take notes while reading instead of afterwards because if you read a book in two days like me, you will definitely have to go back through the book to find all the main important parts.
I totally agree with the lesson of not taking things for granted because you never know what the future holds for you.
DeleteI learned that too. Note taking is way way easier doing it right away rather than going back to it!
DeleteOur themes were kind of similar. My book taught me to never that you should always love your parents because you never know how soon they can go.
DeleteI finished up reading my book night. One them in Night is persistence and never giving up. like when Elie thought he was going to die ir that his dad was gonna die but he stuck through it and made it through alive. After 10 years i would like to look back atb this book and remember the horrors of the holocaust.
ReplyDeleteIn this class i have learned that when you take the time to really read a book they have a lot of hidden messages that will surprise you.
Our books have somewhat similar plots, in my book Noah was in love with Allie and they never talked or saw each other for 14 years and then in the end they found each other and got married. Never get up is the message from these books.
DeleteI wish I was able to read Night, it seems like a great book to read, but I got a different book.
DeleteBooks seem to show that they contain what in essence makes a person a person, and also wisdom others have gained. Im glad to see you found a glimpse of that in your book and i hope you continue to read.
Delete1) Upon finishing my book Killing Mr. Griffin by Lois Duncan, I wouldn’t say I have learned a lot from that book. In my opinion the plot is actually pretty good, but I just can’t really relate to it. I mean I would never kidnap a teacher and scare him to death just to get a better grade in his English class. But on the other hand, this book somehow taught me that the only way to get a good grade is working hard for it. Hard work pays of and criticism isn’t always bad, no, criticism only makes you better. Mr. Griffin only tried to make his students the best students they can be, but he chose the wrong way to do that. He always has been so strict with his students and he has never admitted that some of them are actually good writers. If he would have just told them for once they did a great job on their papers, he could have saved his own live.
ReplyDelete2) This class taught me that planning and being organized is a must have. Reading a book takes time and using the time in class was necessary. I really enjoyed working on my own and being responsible for turning my blogs and reading logs in in time. The group discussions also helped me and in the end, I got a lot more comfortable in participating in them than in the first one. And I'm glad, that I made some new friends.
i always really enjoyed doing things in groups do to do to you get to see diffrent views on difrent things that you would have never even thaought of
Deletei really enjoyed hearing about your book. i think that it is very interesting that some students thought about actually doing kidnapped a teacher because they hated her that much.
Deletein the book perks of being a wallflower the lesson that it taught was that know matter how dark it is there is always light at the end of the tunnel thats a lesson that i will remember in 5 to 10 years the thing taht i learned in English this try is that look at things from a different perspective instead of i have to be here i get to be here it all depends on your perspective on things
ReplyDeleteI like this lesson because my book kind of had similar views. That we make mistakes and life is hard but we have to continue on!
DeleteI think the theme for my book is never take things for granted. Its the theme because the main character Jayson gets put in a new life when he was living on his own at 12 years old to having rich parents. When he first moved in with the rich family he didnt want anything to do with the family because he thought he was fine on his own, but as the book went on he realized how good his life had become. I dont know if i will remember this book all that well in the future because ive read so many sports books and they all kind of blend together. I dont have it ranked on my all time favorite list of books. It taught me i had to prepare and have more responsibilty because i had to pick when to have group meetings and how many pages i had to read per day.
ReplyDeletethis book sounds very interesting because that would really be a change in you lifestyle. i am in the same boat because i dont think i will ever remember my book also.
Deletei read a sports book too my book taught me to never give up hopefully this class helps you with responsibility
DeleteThe theme of my book I think is to let the past go and not hold grudges toward people that have wronged you. Both characters face similar problems throughout the book Qui-Gon must face off against someone form his past that wants him dead while Obi-Wan tries to gain Qui-Gon's respect. The book taught me to be mindful of how others feel and act toward things that may tick them off. I read two chapters a day which kind of helped remember what happened throughout the book.
ReplyDeletethat sounds like a really good book i might have to read it.
DeleteA thing I will remember about the book is how it just ended with Lara Jean writing a letter to Peter and in the movie they end up actually dating in the end. this book is top of my favorites list I really enjoyed it. This class has taught me how to use my time wisely and how to plan things accordingly.
ReplyDeleteYour Book sounds so good i think i might read it and i would like to meet him
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI read the book maze runner and one thing i remember is that they are brave and they need to do scary stuff so they have to be brave i will remember that well in English i learned that that is better work free then be caged up
ReplyDeletewhy is it better to work free then to be caged up.
Deletehopefully in the future you work your hardest to be a responsible man
DeleteOne lesson that I learned with this book is I high school is the last time in your life where you will virtually have no responsibilities. Yea you have classes and homework but you don’t have a full time job that you have to go to everyday. You get to hangout with friends all day. I doubt I will look back on this book in 5-10 years but if I do it will be that I wish I could go back to the days of high school. This book is in my top ten books of high school but only because I have maybe only read 10 books.
ReplyDeleteIn this class working as a group has really helped me get a different point of view about something that happened in the book.
my book has the same type of lesson, it's about how you don't let certain things control the way you live and what you do with life.
Deletemy book the eleventh plague 5 or 10 years from now ill remember this book as a sad destructive and the death in it there is lots of different things in it such as the different setting there is Romans in it and destruction fighting and everything in this book everything in such a short book it is a realy good book.
ReplyDeletein this class it tough me to actually do my work
Sounds really sad and sounds like it has made a big impact on you.
DeleteWas there any lessons in your book? What was a part in the book that really stuck out to you?
Delete1)In my book, there was an old wise tale with the monkey and the hunter. Long story short the hunter was hunting the monkey and before the hunt was going to shoot the monkey, the monkey yelled, " If you kill me, your mother dies, and if you don't kill me, your father dies." That's is a really tough choice to make in that situation. Ishmael, the main character, answers by saying that he will kill the monkey and sacrifice his mother so no other human has to come across that monkey. I think it is very powerful and it really wraps my book up to become a full circle. Ishmael stopped evil to save others.
ReplyDelete2) I learned how to get my work done on my own with a bunch of free time. I learned how to use my time wisely. The connection I'm gong to make with this class and my book is that Ishmael was own his own a lot in his book and learned how to get through it and live on is own. I was able to learn and be able to work on my own when completing assignments.
Some lessons I have learned from the book The Notebook was that even if you don’t fight for true love or even what you want doesn’t mean you can’t have it. It has taught me that you should never let your relationships ruin your future and what you want to do with your life. In the book even though Allie was always on his mind he never let her control his life and even though they never saw each other for 14 years he thought about her yes, but he didn’t let that keep him down and sad about it. This book is closer to the top in my list of favorites because it taught me a good life lesson about relationships and how you shouldn’t let the relationship control what you want to do and how you want to live. This class has taught me that you can make connections with even the smallest things in between books. I learned how to make friends even with the people I may not like, English has taught me a lot this trimester.
ReplyDeleteMy book has almost the same thing but not to much, the part where you said "you should never let your relationships ruin your future" because my book a guy basically did and it all went downhill from there
Deletethe theme that this book has taught me is keep your family close and love them as much as you can everyday. you never know when the people you love are going to leave this world. on top of finding that theme in this book i also know first hand how it is to lose a really close loved one. it really sucks to go through that so thats why this book will stay with me for a really long time. i feel like this book is my number one fav book, i really enjoyed this book. this class has tought me you can have freedom to go do what you need on your own but you have to actually work really hard to get stuff done.
ReplyDeleteI love this theme because my books themes is quite the same! Family is so important and even though my character didnt always act like it was in the end he knew that family is the most important thing!
Deletein this book i learned to never give up on something you love to do. i will remember this book because i love baseball. this book will be ranked as my favorite book ive read because its about baseball. in this class i learned to stay ahead of my work and not get behind. i will make sure i keep ahead of all my work in the future.
ReplyDeletei learned pretty much the same thing in my book because i learned never to give up no matter how hard things might get. im glade that its your favorite book.
DeleteI also like baseball, and it would sound like a good book for me.
Deleteduring this book i learned the importance of caring for the people that you love. Amir did not care for Hassan the way he should have and Hassan left. Amir met a girl that he loved and he did love her and that was inspiring. Overall i just learned the importance of caring for your loved ones. This book is probably 4th or 5th in my ranking of favorites! only because it was so difficult to read in the beginning my perspective of this book was very blah!! This class has taught me to love reading again! i used to love reading so much then i quit for the longest time and now i love it again!1
ReplyDeleteyour book sounds very interesting this book sounds like it teaches you really good life lessons
DeleteOur themes are kind of similar. My main character was rude to her dad at first and then started being nice. Towards the end of the book he ended up passing away and she wished that she hadn't said some of the things she did.
DeleteI think our themes our similar, im so glad that you are reading again!
Deletein the book the lone stars i learned that to never give up on anything. the main character got hit hard in a football game and got a concussion he was scared to play again but he got up and started playing again because he never gives up.one thing i will remember about this book is it is about football. the freedom of this class makes you learn that you should stay working and not get behind. this book is my favorite book I have read this trimester.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds really good and it seems like it teaches good lessons
DeleteSounds like some good lessons were tought
DeleteI read the book prodigy and i learned that no matter how hard things get you should never give up. In my book Day and June had to hide from basically everyone at the end of the book. Day left his family and a girl that he grew up with on the streets. June left her friends, family, and all of her money behind for Day. June was really rich and left it all. at some points they didnt have food and June would realize how lucky she was when she was rich.
ReplyDeleteWhen I look back on this book I will probably remember it as one of the only books I read that i got to choose and it was actually pretty good. If i ever need to read a book again for some reason i would probably read this one again or another one in the series. This is probably my favorite book.
This class taught me that having a scheduled makes everything a lot easier. Also that if you have one bad person in your group they could make the class suck.
1) I read Where Things Come Back and i think a lesson in it would maybe be don't be clingy or disrespectful or get to attached to people because it can cause a lot of issues in the close future. This book was actually a really good book.
ReplyDelete2) This class taught me its nice to have freedom but its better to get things done now than it is to later and then your assignment be late and you cant really do much about it.
I agree it is nice to have your things done on time rather than having to do it later.
DeleteI agree with you it is nice having freedom in the class but there's also a big responsibility and you have to make sure you get all of your things done.
DeleteI read the book Shipwreck Island, and one thing I will remember is too keep calm during stressful situations. I probably wont remember this book in 5 years, because it didn't really make an impact on my life at all. This book will not come to one of my favorites, because it wasn't that great. This class taught me to use my time wisely, because if you don't you will end up not doing your work and getting will get a bad grade.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I only got through a fourth of my book, I thought it was fantastic. One of the best books I've read since Slaughterhouse Five. If I were to look back at this book five years from now, I would think about all the moral decisions the character had to make in such a short time period. If it taught me anything it would be that morals will always take control when you least expect it to.
ReplyDeleteThis class taught me a lot about how to spent my time wisely. I didn't always spend it right, but with all these snow days, it was hard to get the class time to read. Plus having certain people in your group just because their your friends may not be the best when trying to keep on track about your book.
i agree with your second responce with working with people
DeleteIt truly shows how mature and how much you have to rely on your people in the group to be there and help the group out.
DeleteI read the book Chinese Handcuffs. One thing i learned is no matter how hard it i keep on pushing hrough. dillions brother killed him self right in front of dillion, Dillion had a hard time thinking about this and everthing that happnd and going to school but he manged to push through it. Jennifers step dad beat her alot and she turned him into the cops so she had to try to keep on functiong when this happend.
ReplyDeleteTThis class thought me that having a scedule makes evething alot eiser. It was nice that we could work at your own paste,
Thats one thing I learned is lifes rough but you gotta stay strong through it.
DeleteI agree that life is rough, you just have to find something that makes life worth living.
Delete1) Reading the book The Last Song, I learned that you should always love your parents no matter what they do. In the end of the book Ronnie's dad ends up passing away. She starts to think of all the things that she said to him and regrets everything. She wished she had a better relationship with him and wasn't so rude. Ranking this book I would say it was one of my favorites.
ReplyDelete2) This class taught me that sticking to a schedule helps a lot and makes things a lot more simple.
I agree with you the class taught you how to use your time wisely.
DeleteI totally agree about the class teaching me that sticking with a schedule makes everything so much easier and organized.
DeleteI agree that the class was a good lesson in time management
DeleteI am sure everyone can related too that book and wants to take back things they have said too loved ones. Also time management was a big factor in this class.
DeleteI agree with what the class taught us how to manage our time better and get things done.
DeleteIn the book Fire starter I learned that you cant trust nobody because if you do them wrong they always turn around and do it 10x worst than what you do and only bites you in the behind. So you really gotta be focused on what you say and around who you say it too.
ReplyDeleteI rank it at the lower part because i really didnt think it was that good because of the super natural things.
1) In my book The Lovely Bones the book taught me to never take anything for granted and to live in the moment because you aren't guaranteed a tomorrow. If I look back in ten years one thing from the book that ill still remember will probably be to live in the present not the past or the future. This book is by far the best book I have ever read so far, it would beat the top of my list.
ReplyDelete2) This class has taught me how to have good time management and prepared me for the future and college by teaching me to be independent and not to depend on the teacher for every little thing. I learned to make sure to follow my groups calendar so I wont be behind and so that I could stay on top of things and be organized.
im glad you enjoyed your book My book had a similar theme about living your life and having purpose
DeleteYou book sends a good message and people I can imagine can easily relate too your book. At least I know that I can. Also this class does keep good time management skills, good life lesson.
Delete1. My book had many great lessons like second chances and purpose . The lessons are something I will always remember from this book . I really enjoyed my book but I dont think its my favorite iv read . The class taught me about responsibility because i had to be prepared and on time with my reading .
ReplyDeleteHow will these lessons help you in the future?
Delete1)In my book a lesson was you cannot trust anyone. Anne found this out the hard way she ended up losing her husband, best friend, and step dad. Something that will stick with me from this book in 5 years is that lesson that people can always change and do terrible things. This book doesn't really rank in my favorites group. Although it was a good book, it just started off way to slow.
ReplyDelete2) This class has taught me a few lessons like don't procrastinate, and always be prepared. This will be helpful in my college life and when I start working.
1) One repeating lesson that my characters imposed a lot throughout the story was too only trust the people that they knew they could trust and no one else. When I look back 5 to 10 years from now I will think of the story line of this book and how it was very far fetched but not far fetched at all it was very interesting. In my all time favorites it would be up there I would say top 10
ReplyDelete2)This class has taught me too if I get my reading done and out of the way right away it is actually pretty easy to keep up. When I work on my own and focus I can get a lot done at my own pace.
I agree with you about your lessons from the class that putting off work is always a bad thing and its better to keep up.
DeleteI read Fallen Angels and one big theme was even when it gets bad dont give up on yourself. In the book they have to fight through the bad things that happen and grow from them. 5 or 10 years from now ill remember the story because its about veitnam and that has always hit close for me. Id say for books this would would be somewhere in my top 10 books ive read. I dont read a lot so that doesnt take much but i think it was a pretty good book. This class taught me that if i dont put off work its easy to keep up and make sure i can work at my own pace and not fall behind in my work.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, the war is an impactful part of history, and keeping up with work is a good thing to have.
DeleteUpon finishing Johnny got his gun the big theme i got from the book is that war doesn't make peace. In the book Johnny talk about them going to war to make peace but at the end of the war it ends in death and destruction. 5 to 10 years from now ill remember this story becuase it deals with the war and the war has always been an impact on my life.
ReplyDeleteThis class has taught me that you need to keep doing your work, and if you get behind it can be really hard to get caught up.
My boom for whom the bell tolls has taught me many lessons, including showing a reason to die for something, persistence when there is no good outcome, trust nobody, and love is usually fund in the worst of places. When i look back i will remember this book very fondly as it was one of the best ive ever read, making it into my top five all time favorites. This English class has also taught me that when you buckle down and get to work, although it feels harder at the time, the burden you must chip away at becomes much lighter in the end. English 4 taught me how to really write, and to not take for granted the moments im given which reflect a real lifestyle.
ReplyDelete
